Project Overview

Timor-Leste

This youth-led project supports young people (aged 18–30) to drive nature-based solutions and adopt climate-friendly, sustainable agricultural practices in Timor-Leste. In partnership with World Vision, the project will help communities restore degraded landscapes, strengthen agricultural systems and build more sustainable livelihoods.

Across an initial 2,500 hectares, with opportunity to scale up to around 10,000 hectares of eligible land, farmers will integrate trees into agricultural land, regenerate forest areas and adopt more resilient and diverse production systems. These shifts are designed to improve local food production, expand income opportunities and build new skills and confidence among youth, with active participation from women in farming and decision-making.

By generating high-integrity carbon credits, the project provides long-term funding to support community-driven restoration and strengthen rural futures across one of Timor-Leste’s most vulnerable regions.

CO-BENEFITS

Environmental co-benefits

Combining agroforestry on farms with reforestation on degraded slopes will restore landscapes, stabilise soils and strengthen ecosystem resilience.

Restoring forest cover and biodiversity
Reforestation and assisted natural regeneration will expand native tree cover across degraded hillsides, strengthening habitats and improving ecosystem resilience.
Improving soil and water systems
Agroforestry practices reduce erosion, stabilise slopes and enhance soil fertility – supporting long-term agricultural productivity and watershed health.
Carbon storage
Approximately 300,000 tCO2e will be sequestered over the 30-year crediting period.
