Project Overview
This project aims to restore sdegraded sugarcane landscapes across central and southern Veracruz, integrating trees into privately owned farms to strengthen climate resilience, protect water systems and diversify rural livelihoods. Across 4,000 hectares of degraded land, approximately 4 million trees will be established with a combination of productive forests, windbreaks and conservation forests. Over a 30-year period, the project is expected to sequester an estimated 900,000 tCO2e while rebuilding soil health and stabilising vulnerable agricultural areas. Working with sugarcane producers in central and southern Veracruz, the project targets marginal lands affected by erosion, declining fertility and climate variability. By restoring degraded parcels, reinforcing slopes and integrating native trees into farming systems, the initiative aims to reduce crop vulnerability, enhance biodiversity and strengthen long-term resilience for both rural communities and agricultural landscapes.
